| GROWING HOSTAS Generally, hosta grow best with filtered shade in the southern half of the states, and morning sun in the northern half. Hosta enjoy fertile (slightly acid), moist, but well drained soil with much water; but is tolerant of dry conditions once established. They are water lovers, and during dry times, consistent watering is a must for optimal growth and maintenance. The larger the leaf, the more water the plant requires. During the hottest months, augment your watering with a showering of the leaves helps alleviate the stress of transpiration. Using a thick layer of mulch to retain moisture and protect the roots is of great benefit. Always around, but not on, the plant. Hostas perform their best in zones 3-8. |

When we dig your hostas, we wash off all dirt, wrap the plants in moist newspaper and plastic, and ship. It is important that you have someone to receive the plants when they arrive or notify USPS NOT to leave the package in the sun. It is important to unwrap and plant them as soon as possible so they don’t dry out in the packaging. If you would like plants to be shipped in pots, let us know. Because this can get quite heavy, there will be additional charges for this. |
